I am a passionate woman! No, I’m not talking about that, I mean I am passionate about decorating. I think about it ALL the time, even obsess over it. When I go into a new space I always look at the surroundings, and think to myself:
- What works in this room…what doesn’t?
- Do I feel inspired?
- Is there a detail I can use for a project?
- Even if it’s absolutely dropdead gorgeous, would I do anything different?
I can immediately tell when I meet someone who is passionate. Whether it be their career, or a hobby, it resonates from them. I have met many amazing people in my life who are passionate about different things. This got me to think, I would love to feature them on my blog and have them share their passion.
Today’s guest blogger is Danielle from cookiesxo.blogspot.com, and her facebook page Hugs & Cookies xoxo. Danielle lives for baking, and of course her adorable family. I just wish I lived closer, her baking is so absolutely delish!
FLOUR. SUGAR. BUTTER. EGGS. Add these to a mixer and the magic begins! Here is my “Top 10”…the reasons why I am so passionate about baking!
1. Baking is therapy!
After a long day many people reach for the wine or the bath. I reach for the bag of flour. Baking is relaxing. Cracking eggs, measuring flour, whipping cream…none of this leaves much time to think about stress. It is distraction therapy. You have to stay focused or your chocolate souffle will flop and your white chocolate strawberry shortcake won’t rise. (Of course baking bloopers do happen but hey, that’s for another article!) Baking, for me, is similar to “Calgon, take me away!”
2. Baking with kids is fun!
How I love to watch my 2 year old drag the kitchen chair across the floor. (Thank goodness the magic eraser works on the scuffs!) He happily pushes it to the counter where the mixer is located while yelling, “I Wanna Bake!” Mixing, measuring and creating gooey, delicious goodness with your children is priceless.
What makes a better gift than something with chocolate, marshmallows, peanut butter or all 3 together? Nothing! Giving the gift of goodies always brings smiles to others. What’s better than that?
4. Cookie Designing!
Creating personalized Cookies is a creative outlet! Birthday? Anniversary? Get well? Thank you? I love to send these messages with a cookie bouquet personalized and created for that special someone. With dough, icings, and cookie cutters, there are no limitations! Who wouldn’t love a gift made specifically for them and customized to represent what they love!
I began blogging 6 years ago with a small digital camera and no real knowledge of a blog. My blog has since evolved into the purchase of a NIKON camera , a super cool zoom lens, and both a blogger website (http://cookiesxo.blogspot.com) and a Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hugs-Cookies-xoxo/361999659991?ref=ts). My blog resembles a scrapbook. It’s filled with pictures of goodies and even my 2 year old sous-chef in action.
6. Bake Alongs!
Baking brings people together and I have created a “Bake Along” on my facebook page. Each week I post a new recipe. Those who want to join, bake the recipe and post a picture to share. Swapping ideas, tips and opinions is part of the fun! But… feeding your friends, coworkers and family is even better! Join in! No experience necessary!
7. Taste tests!
Just another fun way to get everyone involved. Make 2 types of brownies or 2 types of chocolate chip cookies. Have your friends and family try each and rate them. This is how you find the “Best of the Best” for your family’s taste buds! Warning: This can become addictive! You may find yourself baking 2 recipes for everything! I have even been known to subject my colleagues to this activity. Somehow they muddle through!
8. Field Trips!
Once I began my love for baking I also began watching many more cooking/baking shows. My hubby, being the wonderful and supportive man he is, often drives me to NYC to scope out the latest bakery we saw on the Food Network. We have to taste for ourselves if their cookie is really “that” good! We have been uptown, downtown, and to the village. We are foodies on the hunt!
9. Cozy Factor!
There is something to be said for making your own marshmallows and hot cocoa during a snow storm. Or baking warm chocolate chip cookies during a thunderstorm. How about the smell of fresh bread baking on a lazy Sunday afternoon while hubby watches football! We can’t deny it…baking adds a coziness to every home! The scents, the tastes, and the love of sharing that it brings.
10. The Taste!
Baking is therapeutic, satisfying, rewarding, blah, blah, blah. It’s all of those things and more. But at the end of the day, let’s face it…Homemade goodies rock! They just do! Ever reach for a boxed cookie over a homemade one? I didn’t think so!
Don’t you just love Danielle’s post, and want every recipe! She is so talented and creative. Her husband is a lucky man!
