I went from hating the mudroom in our house to absolutely loving it! When I first saw the mudroom it looked like really, really bad school lockers. I thought about taking the whole thing down but decided it is useful, especially because it is right off of the garage (hence the purpose of a mudroom!). This picture shows how the mudroom looked when we first saw it.
Another before photo of the empty ‘lockers’.
And this is how it looks now. We added paneled doors and new hardware. I never had a mudroom, so it really is a nice luxury and best yet, my family is actually using it. I am sooooo glad we left it!
The update was not expensive either. We had our contractor cut the doors and drawers to size, and the new hardware cost a total of $52. Found the hardware during one of our many trips to Ikea. The door handles are called Bastig and pulls are called Grej .
A few other updates: We painted the hallway a warm gray color called Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. (Stay tuned for more about the paint colors I chose, and choosing the perfect gray paint). We took down the hooks over the bench seat since I thought hanging coats over the seat would just look sloppy and defeats the purpose of having a seat there. We changed all the hardware to brushed nickel to have a consistent look, and we added glass french doors to Howie’s office. This gives him much needed privacy while he is working which makes him very happy!
Here is a before picture of the hallway.
And this is how it looks now with the updates.
The hallway still needs some personality. Going to add some fun baskets with our names on them to the shelves above the paneled doors. Possibly some artwork, and I am thinking about adding a fun colored cushion to the bench seat like in this photo from Alisberg Parker Architects. Also, should I add hooks to the left wall section so guests can hang their coats…will that actually work, or will my family start hanging extra coats there, and will it always look like a mess…hmmm…opinions please.
I’ll show you more photos once these finishing touches are made. Have a great weekend.
