In this recent post I wrote about the design planning process…well, the steps I am taking to design my new home. The 1st step was putting together my thoughts and inspiration for each room. For some rooms I knew exactly what I wanted to do, but for others I looked for inspiration to help pull the room together.
Inspiration can come from so many places, it’s all around you. It can be a favorite restaurant, or store you love to shop that you just adore the decor. It can be a vacation spot that brings back warm memories. It can be your wardrobe: do you wear bright colors, earthy colors, or is your closet full of neutrals. Is your wardrobe tailored, or flirty, or perhaps it’s bohemian. For my client Charlene her inspiration was the beach. She wanted the calm, relaxing feeling of the beach without looking kitschy. See her before and after pictures here.
To help with client projects I keep a library of photos sorted by type of room and color. I also save photos if I see a detail or product that I would like to use. There are also several websites, and blogs that I look at for ideas. There are many, but here is a list of my favorites:
- Colour Me Happy
- Design Sponge
- Elements of Style
- Little Green Notebook
- Snippet and Ink
- Young House Love
Love the style of these designers, all have a great portfolio of work:
- Eileen Kathryn Boyd
- Eve Robinson
- OmniArte, Design By Erinn Valencich
- Phoebe Howard
- Samantha Pynn Inc
- Sarah Richardson
- Tobi Fairley
I am making progress with many of the rooms in my house. Stay tuned for photos.
