I can’t believe that my little bundles of joy just turned one. Saige Alexandra and Zachary Lee were born on May 19, 2011. Their first year really did FLY BY!!! I have wanted to blog many times about projects I have been working on, but decided instead to take a break from blogging and dedicate their first year to them. It has been quite a year to say the least! For anyone who has twins, or triplets or more, my hat goes off to you. They have changed my world, bring a daily smile to my face, and it is amazing to see the camaraderie between the two of them, but it is without a doubt the hardest job I have ever had…and I worked in corporate America for 12 years.
I started the nursery before they were born, but did not complete it until after since I did not find out what I was having. So much in life is planned, so it was important to my husband and I to have an element of surprise. Surprised we were…we were convinced we were having 2 boys. Possibly because the way I was carrying, or that friends dreamed that I was, or that my OB’s daughter told us we were (long story), or that the checkout woman in Wal-Mart, who I was convinced was a psychic, knew I was having twins by just looking at me and told me I was having two boys…but they were all wrong! My beautiful Saige made her entrance first, and we were overcome with joy…a girl! At that time (besides me) it was only males in the house…my husband, my stepson, and my 2 dogs. Zac followed 27 minutes later (yes, 27 minutes…it was a natural childbirth and I was exhausted by this time). How perfect…a girl and a boy!
Before the babies were born I painted the walls, purchased the cribs, the changing table and the glider but left to rest until I knew what I was having. The planner in me needed to at least have this done so they would have a place to sleep and a place for me to cuddle them …although we didn’t end up using the nursery until they were 2 months old. I knew I wanted aqua walls, and liked the use of red accents mixed with aqua. I saw photos of a few nurseries (see this blog post) and loved the color scheme. I chose white cribs with clean lines that looked gender neutral, a changing table that was also a dresser (since I needed to fit both babies clothes), and a stone colored glider with cream trim in a velvet micro denier which is so easy to clean. I created design boards for 3 options which I will share with you…boy/boy, boy/girl and girl/girl. I was actually so in love with the concept I ended up choosing, that my design boards were similar for boy/girl and boy/boy. If girl/girl I went with a more feminine concept.
Since this post is already long, I will share with you details about the nursery in my next post. I really, really loved designing this room. It is whimsical, fun, cheerful and brings a smile to my face, and more importantly to Saige and Zac’s face. While designing it I felt there was void in the market for product for shared spaces, whether it to be twins, triplets, or just siblings sharing a room. I ended up designing my own bedding since I wanted it to be coordinating, not the same for both Saige and Zac. I also had product made that I felt was gender neutral. Since I had so much fun designing this room, I worked on design boards for additional shared spaces that I will share with you. Sorry for the long absence, but it’s good to be back.
Hello Lisa,
I have fallen in love with these hot air balloons and NEED to get some for my nursery. Is there any way you can put me in touch with whoever makes them so I can order some for myself?
Hi Rachel,
Of course…the maker is authentic models. I saw them at a trade show and fell in love with them as well. If you google authentic models hot air balloons their are many sites that carry them. If you need more info I would be happy to help.
Best,
Lisa
