I am very excited about today! I have wanted to write a blog for a while now. About 2 years ago I was introduced to the world of blogging (yes, a late bloomer) and like many of you, I was immediately hooked. I spend countless hours reading blogs (often when I should be doing other things), but in doing so, I have been soooooo inspired, and love the fact that there are so many awesome, creative people out there that now have a platform to share their ideas.
The first blog I was introduced to was Snippet and Ink, a wonderful, blog for the newlywed (or anyone who loves to look at wedding inspiration, and photos…true love at it’s best, who doesn’t). I actually wish I found this blog before my wedding! I was told about it from a friend and former colleague of mine who went to a presentation given by the creator of Snippet and Ink, Kathryn Storke. I looked at Kathryn’s blog and (as Oprah says) had an aha moment. I can create my own blog to inspire others in home décor, as Kathryn does for weddings.
As I mentioned this was over a year ago, and while a daily thought in my mind, I didn’t start it until now. Why you ask…well over the last two years, I left my career as a retail buyer in the home furnishings industry, to pursue my dream career of interior design. Since then, I took design classes, worked on getting my company off the ground, and created my website with a talented web designer. I didn’t leave buying b/c I was unhappy with it. I actually loved being a buyer, I love product! As a buyer I was in constant search of the latest, greatest thing. The perfect item that would ring the register. I learned quickly about the 80/20 rule… 20% of your items would produce 80% of your sales, and how true it was. When you found a best seller it was golden. So, why did I leave? While I loved buying, the corporate world really drained me, and in the back of my mind, I had this dream about becoming an interior designer. So thanks, to my wonderful, and understanding husband I left my career to pursue a new one. I now know that I found my true passion, and know that this will be a lifelong career.
While working on client projects, I had an idea for content of my blog. Since I am always searching for product, I thought it would be a great idea to share my finds with readers sorted by category, and covering different pricepoints. One thing I feel strongly about is good design does not need to be expensive. There is great product at every pricepoint, and the key is pulling it all together into a cohesive look. PLEASE feel free to comment and share your fab finds as well.
Since my first entry is already very long, I will save my first product posting until tomorrow. Thank you for visiting. Stay Tuned!
